The Radio Checkout procedure is as follows.

Checking Out Radios

For the person who wants/needs the radio:

  1. Go to Ops to find the radio check-out person
  2. If someone is checking out radios
    1. Have your badge ready - we need your badge number
    2. Read or listen to the Radio Policies and Radio Use (if you can't read the policies we can read them to you)
    3. Ask any questions you have about radio policies or usage. Staffer may quiz you before checking out a radio to you. Either way it is YOUR responsibility to understand the policies and usage procedures.
    4. Make sure the information the check-out person wrote on the form for you is accurate
    5. Initial the form to check out your radio
    6. Follow all Radio Policies and use them correctly per the Radio Use documentation
  3. If there is no one checking out radios
    1. Find someone who is authorized to check out a radio, or wait until later
    2. If you have to wait you can fill your time with reading the Radio Policies and Radio Use documentation.

For the staffer checking out radios:

  1. Find the radio number on the radio
  2. Write the radio number on the form in the "Radio Number" column
  3. Write the badge number of the staffer who needs a radio in the "Staff Badge" column.
  4. Write the checkout date/time in the "Time Out" and "Date Out" columns
  5. Go over the radio policies and usage with the staffer. At minimum the staffer must read the documentation. You may also read it to them or provide additional information.
  6. If you feel it necessary, quiz the staffer with a few quick questions on radio usage.
  7. Have the staffer initial in the "Initials" column next to their badge number
  8. Put your badge number in the "Issuer Badge"
  9. Initial in the "Initials" column next to your badge number
  10. Hand the radio to the staffer

Checking Radios Back In

For the person who is returning the radio:

  1. Bring the radio to Ops and find the person checking radios in/out
  2. If someone is there:
    1. Give the person your radio
    2. Give your radio number and badge number
    3. Let the staffer know if there are were any issues with the radio
  3. If there is no one available:
    • Find someone or wait until later. Do not just leave your radio. You are still responsible for it until we can officially check it in.

For the staffer checking in radio:

  1. Take the radio from the staffer
  2. Find the radio on the form using the number on the radio
  3. Make sure the person returning the radio is the person who checked it out
  4. Ask if there are any issues with the radio
  5. Write the date and time the radio is returned on the form
  6. Make sure the radio is in good condition
  7. If there is anything to note about the radio, do so on the back of the checkout form (or on some white or yellow paper - there is no form for this but a yellow pad would totally work)
  8. If the radio needs to be pulled from rotation, notify Haku immediately or at the earliest possible time
