card games

Postby AngelboyDark » Sat Feb 13, 2010 11:40 pm

I'm not sure how, or if we want to, but holding a yu gi oh card compition or pokemon or magic or something. Also, other card games like munchkin. What do you guys think and do we have to sign up somewhere to run compitetions? Would that be a bonus? Your opinions please.

Leave it to us! We'll get a Magic tournament running here. As for Munchkin, we can easily set up a couple tables.

What kind of a crowd do we have for Pokemon?

Pokemon? I'm sure there are a few takers. Heck, Nathan knows two guys who'll be down in five minutes to prove me right. Also, if the hull breach guys come, we can show off their stuff as well.

All right. Does Pokemon still have a league? We'll see about getting approved.

Ask Wizards of the Coast. They own the TCG, lock, stock, and barrel.

Lol, makes me wish I still had some of my old MTG or Pokemon TCG collection. Never had any awesome decks, but had some decent ones that might be fun to throw into a tourny. Perhaps you guys could have signups for some oddball card games set up and if enough people sign up on the first day of the con, you could run the tourny on the second day? That way, you'd know for certain if you can get a tourny up of any given game before trying to run it, and just keep with the major ones on the first day.

I'm tempted to hold a poker thing now. Five dollar buy-in, winner takes home a prize? However, the casino might yell at us....

Just don't set the buy-in too high. We job corps students aren't very wealthy. ;P

We'll set it at a tooth and three bits of string. Even UNR undergrads should be able to afford that.

Well, since I'm the newly appointed God of Cardflopping, if you guys have anything that you want to see run card or board game wise, let me know, and I'll make sure that we have something going on, whether it be casual play or a full-blown tournament.

And Pokemon is still going strong. However, Nintendo runs the show now, WotC lost the license like two-three years ago. I have a lot of work to do getting in contact with all the companies to guarantee support before the con, but if you guys want to see it, I'll do my damndest to make it work.

I will be bringing my collection of stand-alone board and card games, list is forthcoming.

Not to burst your bubble, but your duties are more presiding over the events. Let me handle the prize support, nya? I've already got an in with the RPGA anyway. You could see about getting us endorsed with Nintendo for Pokemans, as I have no effing idea how they do their stuff. Just a quick recap, the centerpiece is probably gonna be a Magic tournament; If I can swing it, a Legend of the Five Rings tournament as well. Pokemon is secondary, and I would like to have a couple tables for boardgaming and free gaming, but that'll depend on space-we're sorta in the air as far as how much we're gonna have, but that's the plan.

Edit: Who runs Yu-Gi-Oh? I completely forgot. Top Deck?

Don't worry, I'm in dialogue with our region's Magic Judge Coordinator, so we could realistically make this a tournament that both casual and aspiring pros WANT to show up to. Also, I've known Steve at Games Galore for years both as a customer and as a tournament organizer, and he has plenty of product for all the games we want to play, so sponsorship through them is becoming increasingly likely. Whatever else you can add to the table prize-support wise is icing on the cake, since I don't have my hands on the con purse-strings like you might. ;) I'm even willing to dip into my personal collection and throw in additional, because people LOVE swag. It's a convention LAW.

I'm going to spend my next couple days getting in contact with both Konami (for Yu-Gi-Oh!) and Nintendo (for Pokemon) as far as convention/tournament support goes. Upper Deck USED TO publish Yu-Gi-Oh! for North America, but apparently they screwed up, and it all goes through Konami now.

As far as L5R goes, I've been playing since the beginning, and have insiders from all around the world that I count as friends. Even though my duty is to keep the CCG love going the full 36 hours throughout, L5R has always been my favorite CCG, and the events I have planned in my diabolic mind are going to be one of, if not THE, crowning jewel of our CCG showcase.

Anybody interested/intrigued/scared? Well, you know where to find me... :geek:

speaking of prize-support you think we can get one or 2 of those pros to start a table for archenemy? we could charge for each time you want to go up agensts the archenemy and have up to 3-4 players (not including the archenemy) per game and every time the non archenemy players win they get a prize... i love that game type and i would love to see it happen

Oh, I would SO be down for running Archenemy. Great suggestion gotac! I already have the W/B/U artifact deck for it, just need to get the other 3. One way or another, I see it going down.

Strip poker's probably gonna be going on in one shape or form YAOI-chan. Just not under my supervision. ;P

Archenemy's not a bad idea. For big Magic though, we've already got a type 2 and a possible booster draft, in addition to a Perpetua League if we manage to swing it.Archenemy may be a bit too much to do officially, cause we've got to spread the love around the other card games as well.

Munchkin would be a great idea. It is fun and has capacity for many people simultaneously. I once played a game with 11 other people, simulataneously, and it worked very well.

for next year is there a way to get an unrestricted game going, cause I haven't bought cards sense Lorowin really, so I don't think I have any legal decks around.

There were many casual MTG games that went on. i still have my ancient Pokemon cards. Somewhere I do have my Legend of the 5 Rings decks. I do have 2-3 Yu-Gi-Oh decks. I do also have one WoW deck. My name is Jim Delaney, and I am a TCG addict.
